Sparta Station Foundation
Our Plan for Sparta Station

Sparta station in better days.
If allowed access to the site we would:
Remove the growth from around the station itself
Cut and remove the trees closest to the building
Trim the grass and cut the vegetation on the grounds
Remove the trash strewn around the interior of the station |
Our short term goals are:
To reduce the threat of fire damage
To make the station more visible and (hopefully) less attractive to vandals
Bring the station grounds back to their more attractive appearance of many years ago
Ultimately, we would like to board up and paint the station to stop all deterioration and vandalism |

The interior and exterior of Sparta Station today.
Our long term goals are:
Have the station placed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places
Obtain private, state, and federal grants to acquire the station for the town
Restore the station to its "as built" appearance while adding wheelchair access and running water/bathroom facilities
Create a Sparta Museum that would encompass the town's history and the railroad's part in it |
Tri-State is seriously considering acquisition of Sparta station once the property becomes available. Please use the e-mail link below to contact us to volunteer or to ask questions.
Donations are urgently needed so that we may begin stabilizing the station! Please send checks to Tri-State Railway Historical Society, Inc., P.O. Box 1217, Morristown, NJ 07962-1217. Any amount is appreciated. All donations are tax deductible to the amount permitted by law.
